Why You Have To Go To Koh Samui

Go To Koh Samui

This is a guest post by Vincent from Travel and Visit.

Once you get past the beautiful beaches, many islands in Thailand tend to fall short. However, the small bustling island of Koh Samui offers everything from waterfall hikes and temple tours to Thai boxing classes and so much more. Boasting historic sites, beautiful wild life and gourmet restaurants – you really can fall in love with Samui, one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands.

Buddhism is alive and well in Thailand, with its manifestations seen in the numerous Buddhist temples, monks and of course the giant Buddha statues that dot the landscape. Koh Samui has its own share of massive Buddhas including Wat Plai Laem, a giant goddess with 18 arms.

Markets and Festivals

Asian markets are intriguing places to visit. For one, you can find every part of any animal for sale, while the food carts stationed outside the market may outnumber the actual stalls inside. And then there’s the organized chaos and screaming dialogue between haggling buyers and eager vendors. The Fisherman’s Village 5-day Festival held each August is your best bet for a complete cultural and culinary excursion in Koh Samui.

The Food

Southern Thai food leans on the spicier side and you will be impressed by the restaurants’ offerings of Thai dishes. The food is fresh, flavorful, and aromatic and presented so vividly that it rivals those at the top Bangkok restaurants. You will be so enamored by the food that you will be tempted to take a Thai cookery class and learn how to make Pad Thai, Thai Basil Chicken, Green Curry Beef, Tom Kha Gai Soup, Papaya Salad, and of course, its secret dipping sauce.

Southern Thai cuisine is typically fresh and served up with organic or locally sourced ingredients. The rice is never polished and the seafood is never farmed. The good restaurants do not buy factory chickens either. The result is a menu filled with mouthwatering healthy dishes.

Night life

It’s difficult to escape the lure of nightlife on a tropical paradise island, and Koh Samui is no exception, with Chaweng Beach ranked as one of the top places to enjoy a fantastic night out. Nighttime entertainment options range from street side beer joints, lady-boy cabarets, girly bars and trance nightclubs. The best part is that after spending hours on your feet, affordable massage spas are open until the wee hours of the morning.

No over-development

In another few years, the rest of the world will have discovered this island nirvana. For the moment, it has still managed to maintain its balance of serenity and party-place ambiance, refusing to succumb to the temptation of development and luxury investments. It is for this reason that, for the moment, Koh Samui is still a great place to visit.

Chic Hangouts

Koh Samui’s beach atmosphere is sophisticated with an aura of serenity, even amid the chaos of lady-boys and beer girls crowding the strip. This is where revelers escape to after a night of partying. It’s the ideal spot for those who enjoy being at the center of all the action.
